Why you (and I) should make a personal website
Writing is a way to diffuse your thoughts onto a sheet of paper. Unfortunately, most sites combine your paper(s) with other people's papers. And a lot of those "other people's papers" suck.
It's not like it's a bad thing, because you get to have a Medium (hah!) where you could advertise your content on top of other people's. It's pretty neat if you want to put your name out there in the world, because new folks can somehow end up on your neat little corner of the internet.
Unfortunately, I feel like this becomes messy really quick because your messaging is mixed with that of other people's. And I don't mean to diss on other people's efforts, but those "other people" can be the kind of crowd you don't want to get mixed with. Y'know, snake oil sellers, fearmongers and the like.
So I'm starting a website. If anything, this website is a backup of my personal Notion folder, in which I have about 30+ articles that I've promised to myself that I'd eventually publish.
Hehe, eventually.
I really think it's important to have an outlet like this website. Most of my posts aren't really something that I'm super proud of, because most of the time it's just me ranting about things that I find interesting or detestable. I don't feel like it belongs on Medium, because I don't want to be one of those people that pollute the platform with - ahem - controversial-but-not-well-informed takes.
Y'know, like how you should definitely ditch software engineering best practices when building an MVP.
At the same time, if I don't put my crap writing anywhere, then I wouldn't be able to get that dopamine rush of "Yay, I've finally published my content even if it's crap!" And if I don't publish my crap content, then it'd just be stuck in the backlog and - yes this happened many times in the past - block my internal writing pipeline from publishing actually-decent content.
So rejoice: for I have decided to make this website as a home to all of my content, whether it is good or bad. My writing may make you chuckle (out of pity), but you most certainly will get writings that I would previously not have the audacity to publish anywhere on the internet.
If you are like me and you are really freaking confused about where to put your ramblings, then I highly suggest putting it on your personal website. Seriously. I don't think recruiters would stumble here, and even if they do then that's on them for stumbling on my personal blog (though I really do hope they enjoy their stay). It's meant to be personal, not professional(TM).
